OSCAR DE LA RENTA : BUILDER OF DREAMS

The extreme feminism of his designs enpowered the modern Woman's



Born in Puerto Rico , De la Renta went to Spain to study Fine Arts, there by fate he met another genius of haute couture Cristobal Balenciaga , with whom he began his career in the world of fashion. It was in 1956 one summer night and a white torn tulle suit with two layers and a tight silk corset that would change his life.


During his studies of Arts in Madrid, he managed to start his work as an artist in Balenciaga's workshop. At that time, the Spanish was one of the most recognized designers in the Iberian country. At the age of 23 De la Renta designed a dress for Beatriz Lodged (daughter of the U.S. ambassador at the time) who at 18 years old and thanks to this piece became the protagonist of the cover of Life Magazine, a weekly magazine with this picture, made the name of Oscar de La Renta around the world.




Oscar de la Renta´s name would echo in the fashion world until today. In 1961 he moved to Paris where he lived for two years. Two years later the Big Apple would become her new home. She collaborated with Elizabeth Arden , and in 1965 she created her own fashion house together with Jane Derby .






Since then, Oscar de la Renta would be one of the most recognized fashion houses worldwide. His vivid designs of details, pastel colors and the femininity of each of his pieces made him become one of the most important designers in history. In 1968 he launched a collection Pré -a -porter and was one of the pioneers of this trend.





Red carpets, galas and many weddings have carried the seal of Oscar de la Renta, his wedding dresses are also one of the best selling in the world. He also worked as creative director of Balmain and left the firm in 2002 to dedicate himself fully to his brand.De la Renta was twice elected President of the Designers Council of America in the 70's and 80's. He was awarded the CFDA Designer of the Year 2000, the Living Legend Award, two American Coty Fashion Critics Awards.




The Puerto Rican died at age 82 in the United States, leaving an indelible legacy that will transcend time..
